The beauty that was once before Amman
This is an ongoing depiction of some of the aspects of the transformation of parts of Amman from the picturesque plains and hills reminiscent of the scenes of the bible to the undulating sea of white stone buildings.
In this story, the past, present and future converge. The untouched natural settings around the city represent how West Amman registers in this generation’s memory. The relentless construction fed by migration and the burgeoning metropolis with its people and urban policies form an exchange between the present and the future. Even though the city can and does expand towards the more arid and less natural plains of the East, the rich prefer the greener hills of the West. The vegetation does not look like much, but these small patches are part of the disappearing forests in the country; be it Pine or Oak.
All these photos were taken during the last ten years.
